Privacy
Your information, handled plainly. What we collect, why, and who helps us.
This privacy policy sets out, plainly, the personal information this site collects, why we use it, who helps us process it and the rights you have.
Who we are
Boring Future is an AI, automation and connected-systems practice led by Keiaan McLean, based in Redditch, Worcestershire. For the personal data described here, Boring Future is the controller: we decide how and why it is used.
Questions about this policy or your data go to hello@boringfuture.co.uk. You’ll reach a person, usually Keiaan.
What we collect
- When you send an enquiry, through the contact form or an enquiry Tina helps you prepare: your name, organisation, email address, team size if you give it, and your message.
- When you talk to Tina or ask a question in the Services FAQ: what you type and the replies. If you ask to see a workflow sketched, the short brief built from your conversation.
- When you email us: whatever you choose to send.
- When you visit: the technical details any web server handles, such as your IP address, browser and the page requested. Our host keeps these in short-lived logs for security and reliability. Our own functions use your IP address only in memory, to limit how many messages can be sent in a few minutes; they don’t store it.
We don’t use advertising trackers, session replay or cookies, and we don’t buy or sell personal data. We record a small set of first-party Tina events, such as starting a workflow, generating a sketch, viewing simulation results and continuing to an enquiry. These contain event names, times, a temporary random page-visit identifier and a workflow reference—not your chat, contact details or workflow contents. Browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals disable these browser events. Our host may still keep its normal technical request logs.
Why, and our lawful basis
- Replying to your enquiry and arranging a conversation. Taking steps you’ve asked for before any contract, and our legitimate interest in answering people who get in touch.
- Answering questions through Tina and sketching workflows. Our legitimate interest in providing the assistant you’ve chosen to use.
- Keeping the site secure and working, and preventing abuse. Our legitimate interests.
- Keeping records if we work together. Performing our contract with your organisation, and meeting legal obligations such as tax records.
We won’t add you to a mailing list or send you marketing unless you ask us to. Tina’s answers and sketches are illustrations: no decision with legal or similarly significant effects on you is made by automated means.
Tina, our AI assistant
Tina is an AI assistant, not a person. What you type to her is sent to Anthropic to write her replies and any workflow sketch. If you ask for a sketch, it is also sent to TypeSafe, whose decision model chooses a route for each example request. On the Labs benchmarks and sandboxes, each message to Tina also carries a short summary of what the page shows, including your results and the start of anything you typed into a playground (never a key or a password), so she can explain them.
Please leave out sensitive or confidential information, such as health details, financial account details or information about your clients. A real conversation about your business starts with an anonymised example, and we agree a secure route before anything confidential is shared.
We don’t keep Tina conversations on our servers. Your browser keeps the conversation for this visit only, so it survives a page reload. While Tina is helping you prepare an enquiry, the conversation isn’t kept in the browser at all. The providers may keep what they process for a limited period under their own terms, for example to monitor abuse.
If you choose “Continue with this workflow”, we show the description, sketch and assumptions you are sharing. You can optionally include the simulated decision model. We send this summary and your contact details to Boring Future only when you explicitly approve and submit the enquiry. The shared summary is then kept with your enquiry. “Save my workflow” downloads a copy to your device without sending the summary to us. The arcade game runs in your browser.
The Labs benchmark
The decision benchmark on the Labs benchmarks page sends its own made-up cases to TypeSafe and OpenAI. If you use its playground, the text you enter is sent to TypeSafe (Jev) and OpenAI (the Decisions API), and any image you add is sent to OpenAI only. We use them only to show the two answers on the page; we don’t keep them on our servers or log them. The providers may keep what they process for a limited period under their own terms. Please leave out personal or confidential information.
The operational-assistance benchmark sends its synthetic tasks and source facts to OpenAI and Anthropic. It does not collect your own operational records. Responses and measurements remain in the page for this visit; we do not store them on our servers.
The job completion and expense receipts sandboxes send only their own synthetic jobs, claims and photos to TypeSafe (Jev) or OpenAI (the Decisions API), whichever you choose; you can’t add your own. Its results are kept in your browser so they survive a reload, and you can clear them on the page. We don’t store or log them.
Who helps us
These providers process personal data on our behalf, only to provide their service to us:
- Vercel hosts the website and runs the functions behind Tina and the contact form.
- Anthropic writes Tina’s replies, the FAQ answers and workflow sketches, and answers the operational-assistance benchmark with Haiku.
- OpenAI answers the operational-assistance benchmark with GPT-6 Luna and the decision benchmark through its Decisions API.
- TypeSafe routes the example requests in a workflow sketch, and answers the Labs benchmark’s text cases with Jev.
- EmailJS delivers enquiries from the contact form to our inbox, and may send you an acknowledgement that we’ve received yours.
- Hostinger provides our email, including the hello@boringfuture.co.uk mailbox.
If you follow our link to LinkedIn, LinkedIn’s own privacy policy applies there.
Transfers outside the UK
Some of these providers are based, or process data, outside the UK, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred, we rely on the safeguards UK data protection law provides for, such as the International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries and emails: as long as we need to reply and follow up. If we don’t go on to work together, we delete them within two years of our last contact.
- If we work together: for the length of the engagement, then as long as the law requires, such as six years for financial records.
- Tina conversations: not stored by us; your browser clears them when you close the tab. A workflow summary you explicitly send is retained as part of your enquiry.
- Server logs: kept by our host for a short period.
Your browser’s storage
We don’t set cookies. The site uses your browser’s own storage for two things you’d expect. Session storage keeps your Tina conversation, and any summary you carry to the contact form, until you close the tab. Local storage remembers your motion setting if you change it in the footer. Neither is sent as analytics. The temporary identifier for Tina events stays in page memory and resets on reload; it is not a cookie or a persistent browser identifier. A workflow reference accompanies a workflow enquiry you approve, so we can understand which illustration led to the conversation.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you. You can also ask us to correct or delete it, to restrict or stop using it, or to give it to you in a portable form. Where we rely on legitimate interests, you can object. Email hello@boringfuture.co.uk and we’ll reply within one month.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We’d appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Changes
When how we handle data changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. The website terms cover using the site itself.
